Abstract

This paper examines strategic innovation management, focusing on the importance of indicators and metrics for evaluating the impact of innovative projects. Based on the definition of innovation from the Oslo Manual (OECD, 2018), we differentiate between invention and innovation and discuss categories such as incremental, radical, and disruptive innovation. Additionally, we explore key indicators, including cost reduction, investment in R&D, and return on investment (ROI), and how metrics at different stages of the innovation process (ideation, selection, development, and implementation) are crucial for project success. Finally, the paper also addresses the relationship between innovation and profitability, highlighting that technological innovations can enhance productivity but pioneering companies may face challenges in capturing economic benefits, as indicated by studies in the field.
