This paper presents a theoretical analysis of the traditional and consolidated dimensions associated with Building Information Modeling (BIM) in the face of new demands arising in the construction industry. The aim is to explore how this methodology can contribute to overcoming these challenges and optimizing construction processes. The research methodology adopted in this work is of an applied nature, with qualitative exploratory objectives, and involved technical procedures for collecting bibliographic data. BIM has revolutionized the construction industry, providing significant improvements in efficiency, collaboration, and accuracy throughout the project lifecycle. This study provides information on the theoretical framework regarding the dimensions of BIM and how this subject has been addressed in the construction industry in recent years. As a result, it was observed that emerging paradigms in the construction industry related to interoperability, collaboration, innovation, and sustainability are still under development in BIM. However, they represent a possibility based on their potential to have a significant positive impact on this sector. For BIM to reach its full potential, the construction industry will need to develop standards and guidelines for its use. Additionally, professionals involved in construction planning need to be trained and qualified to use BIM appropriately, thus exploring all the potentialities that this methodological process offers.
