LIDERANÇA E COMPROMETIMENTO ORGANIZACIONAL: UM ESTUDO COM PROFISSIONAIS DA INDÚSTRIA BRASILEIRA DE TRANSFORMAÇÃO

This research aims to analyze relationships between leadership styles – transactional, transformational, laissez-faire and commitment – affective, normative and instrumental of professionals in the Brazilian manufacturing industry. To this end, the transactional – transformational leadership approach proposed by Bass and Avolio (2004) is adopted as theoretical frameworks for carrying out the study, based on the theoretical model developed by Burns (1978), as well as the commitment model affective – normative – instrumental, developed by Allen and Mayer (1990). In methodological terms, the research that subsidizes the results of this study can be characterized as having a quantitative approach and descriptive character, having been developed through the survey technique, involving the application of a questionnaire, composed of Likert type scales, of five points, together with professionals from Brazilian transformation sector. As a scale for measuring leadership style – transactional, transformational and laissez-faire, the MLQ 5x short scale is used (Bass & Avolio, 2004). For the analysis of organizational commitment, the Affective Commitment Scale, developed by Meyer and Allen (1991) is adopted. Applied to a sample of professionals from the Brazilian manufacturing industry, 156 complete the valid questionnaires were returned, which after being tabulated were subjected to statistical data processing, allowing the identification of a positive significant correlation between leadership styles – transformational, transactional and affective commitment. On the other hand, there is no significant correlation between leadership styles – transformational, transactional and instrumental and normative commitments, in addition there is no significant correlation between the laissez-faire leadership style and instrumental, affective and normative commitments.
