Abstract

With a history almost as extensive as human existence itself, studying clothing and its various aspects means understanding the behavior of an entire civilization. Nowadays, the global spread of clothing usage and the inclination towards the consumption of textile goods, driven by the fashion market, has led to a significant obsolescence of old garments, resulting in frequent and sometimes inappropriate mass disposal of acquired items. The methodological aspects of this research included a survey that adapted theoretical drivers of sustainability actions in textile chains to the context of consumer behavior towards these products. Among the main findings, it was possible to observe the relationship between different economic profiles and formal education levels of consumers and their tendencies to embrace sustainable products. This research provides valuable insights for organizations operating in the textile industry by linking consumers' economic profiles and education levels to the effectiveness of sustainability practices within their supply chains. Such correlations may guide organizations to focus their efforts on sustainable practices for consumer profiles that have shown receptiveness to these actions. The results demonstrated the association between economic profiles and educational levels with the willingness to purchase textiles from sustainable companies. It was possible to conclude that formal education levels have a direct relationship with the acceptance of sustainable textile products, while economic profiles influence the buying strategy (regardless of the level of receptiveness).
